CDC MMWR on COPD

James Kiley, Director of the Lung Division of the National Heart Lung Blood Institute continues to work with the Learn More, Breathe Better campaign and Drive4COPD Campaign.  New data from all states with the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System estimates that about 15 million US adults have been diagnosed with COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.  COPD is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US and 2nd leading cause of disability.

There are 46,015 Hawaii adults (4.4% of the Hawaii adult population) who have been diagnosed with COPD, which costs over $55.9 million/year in hospital and ER costs.
