COPD Book:  An excellent resource for anyone interested in learning to live with and manage COPD is published by Lung Foundation Australia and Queensland Health, 3rd edition of “Better Living with COPD.”  It includes information on medicine, inhalers, preventing and managing flare ups, pulmonary rehabilitation, exercise and physical activity, breathlessness, breathing exercises, airway clearance, home oxygen therapy, eating, swallowing, related conditions, stress, intimacy, travel, and much more!

COPD Recent Articles & Handouts:  Hot off the presses, new Patient Education Information Sheet about Mindfulness with Lung Conditions from the Integrative Medicine Special Interest group of the American Thoracic Society, Mindfulness for those with COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer and Lung Transplantation with helpful suggestions on keeping centered and calm during stressful times.  Also newly published articles about COPD on USA Today featuring members of the US COPD Coalition Board of Directors.  Everything You Should Know about COPD and Fighting the Stigma and Misconceptions of COPD.  The USA Today Overall Lung Health Campaign is free for all to view and covers a range of conditions and perspectives, including COPD, COVID-19, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis.

More Free Resources:  Another free book is Noah Greenspan, DPT, CCS, EMT-B’s Ultimate Pulmonary Wellness.  It covers breathlessness, the respiratory system, breathing techniques, daily activity, positivity, medications, exercise, treadmill, nutrition, emotions, preventing infection, secretion clearance and final thoughts.  Remember there also several links on the Hawaii COPD Coalition website that provide free materials as well.  The COPD Foundation‘s website, particularly the Learn More tab has a wealth of free and useful information for patients, caregivers and providers.

Exercise:  Free exercise videos and information are available here from the British Lung Foundation.  Another option is the Toronto Western Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation Home Exercise DVD.

Oxygen:  Great resources for information about supplemental oxygen include the US COPD Coalition website with webinars about portable oxygen, a portable oxygen assessment form, the AARC’s Guide to Portable Oxygen Concentrators, and the online Pulmonary Paper (particularly the POC Comparision Charts on the homepage, where all portable oxygen concentrators are reviewed and displayed in a chart).
