The National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2013 funding chart shows that compared to the huge number of deaths every year (nearly 140,000), COPD is still terribly underfunded. Attached is the chart, which looks very much like the prior 2010 chart and the most current funding statistics continue this trend. The graph is here.
